Wow, this headline brings back a memory!
“OJ Simpson’s $500,000 Florida home to be sold at foreclosure auction”
It was just over 16 years ago that another O.J. Simpson house was auctioned off. That one was on Rockingham Avenue in Brentwood, California. It sold for $2.63 million in July 1997 following a civil court wrongful-death verdict against him for $33 million in the infamous murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman in June 1994.
Simpson had left California and moved to Florida, in part, to protect his assets, and the bank that held the mortgage on his Brentwood house foreclosed.
Unlike the Florida house auction, which was held online, the California auction was held on the front steps of a Los Angeles Superior Court courthouse in Norwalk and bought by the bank that had foreclosed on it.
After changing hands one or more times, perhaps for investment purposes. After investment banker and president of the Jerry’s Famous Deli chain, Kenneth Abdalla, plunked down nearly $4 million for it, he had it torn down in 1998, he was quoted as saying “that so much work was needed to improve the mansion that it was cheaper to demolish it and rebuild.”
Wonder what the fate of the Florida house will be.
